1. Priority Log: Spreadsheet here!
When life gets hectic and overwhelming, we can create a tool that will help us realize how priorities and see our deadlines. In creating this Priority Log, you will learn skills covered in more detail over the next few tutorials in this track including data validation, date functions, filter, and conditional formatting. The nested IF function concept will be addressed in the Intermediate II track.
2. Data Validation
A useful concept, data validation was introduced in both our Priority Log and Spending Tracker tool (shown in the last video in the Beginner Track). Here we’ll understand what data validation does, why it’s useful, and how to access it.
3. Date Functions: Spreadsheet here!
Let’s explore some of the common date functions, including the NOW, TODAY, MONTH, DAY, HOUR, MINUTE, SECOND, and EOMONTH functions.
4. Intermediate Formatting
Let’s dive into formatting techniques. Here you’ll discover how to conditional format and filter. You’ll also learn how to add an image into a spreadsheet.
5. Movie Statistics: Spreadsheet here!
What is the average number of theaters a top 100 grossing movie is featured in? What is the correlation between the grossing sales of a movie and the number of theaters it is featured in? Find out the answer to these and many more. Here you’ll discover how to statistically analyze movie data!
6. Average, Median, & Mode: Spreadsheet here!
How do we describe the typical value or outcome across a dataset? There are actually multiple ways to do it! Here we’ll discuss three measures of a “typical” value: the arithmetic average, median, and mode. You’ll discover what they mean and how to calculate them in a spreadsheet.
7. Standard deviation & Variance
Just as important as understanding the “typical” value is also knowing how much dispersion there is across your data points – or in other words – how much your data points deviate from the average. Here we’ll focus on the concepts of standard deviation and variance and discover how to calculate both.
8. Rank, Percentrank, & Percentile
Across all 100 top grossing movies, how can I calculate where The Hunger Games ranks by number of theaters viewed? Or, did you know that 3,770 theaters is in the 90th percentile of theaters shown for the 100 top grossing movies? Explore these questions in the video!
9. Correlation & R-Squared
The correlation coefficient and r-squared are fascinating concepts. With these concepts, you’ll see how strong the relationship is between 2 items and how good 1 item is at predicting the other!
10. GEOMEAN
A statistical function, the GEOMEAN calculates the geometric average. What is the geometric average, and how does it differ from the arithmetic average?
11. Stacked Area Chart: Spreadsheet here!
Check out what a stacked area chart is and how to build one!
12. GeoMap: Spreadsheet here!
Discover what a GeoMap is to create a neat graphic of your language skills!
12. Tree Map: Spreadsheet here!
Ever heard of a Tree Map? Use one to compare your ideal versus actual day!
Bravo! You’re ready for the next track: Intermediate II.
