In creating this Priority Log, you will learn skills covered in more detail over the next few tutorials in this track including data validation, date functions, filter, and conditional formatting. How do we describe the typical value or outcome across a dataset? There are actually multiple ways to do it! Here we’ll discuss three measures of a “typical” value: the arithmetic average, median, and mode. You’ll discover what they mean and how to calculate them in a spreadsheet.

### 7. Standard deviation & Variance

Just as important as understanding the “typical” value is also knowing how much dispersion there is across your data points – or in other words – how much your data points deviate from the average. Here we’ll focus on the concepts of standard deviation and variance and discover how to calculate both.

### 8. Rank, Percentrank, & Percentile

Across all 100 top grossing movies, how can I calculate where *The Hunger Games* ranks by number of theaters viewed? Or, did you know that 3,770 theaters is in the 90th percentile of theaters shown for the 100 top grossing movies? Explore these questions in the video!

### 9. Correlation & R-Squared

The correlation coefficient and r-squared are fascinating concepts. With these concepts, you’ll see how strong the relationship is between 2 items and how good 1 item is at predicting the other!

A statistical function, the GEOMEAN calculates the geometric average. What is the geometric average, and how does it differ from the arithmetic average?
